Challenge for the New Year

What bugs the snot out of me? New Year's Resolutions. Why? Because I tend to be a perfectionist and resolutions feel like something written in stone which stresses me out. So, in high school, I quit with the entire resolution thing. Good or bad idea? You tell me, I don't know.

At the beginning of each new year, I look back on the events in my life, what went well, mistakes along the way (like starting a blog, hehehehe) and some "goals" I'd like to achieve. (See, goals aren't as stressful as resolutions.) :) But, I'm going a different route and challenging myself to read the Bible in a year, beginning to end, with that fun little calendar in the back. My other cool sister-in-law (Yes, I'm blessed with the two coolest sister-in-laws in the entire world. They are both very dear friends to me and I thank God they're in my life.) inspired me to do this by accomplishing this task herself in the year 2006. Ashamed to call myself a disciple of Christ, I have never read the Bible cover to cover. I've studied most of the contents, but have mainly kept familiar with the New Testament and favorites of the Old Testament. (like Song of Songs, of course, hehehehe) My husband is going to kill me for that comment........okay, maybe not. :) :) :) :)

Since the influence of another has put this challenge in my life, I hope my personal goal may start a fire, if not this year maybe in the future, for some of you out there. I'm looking forward to reading the Word cover to cover and what God has in store for 2007.

Cheers to the New Year!

Greg did that in 2006 also. He used a paperback version that has readings for each day which include an Old Testament passage, New testament passage, and something from Psalms. He really enjoyed it - - - - and was PROUD that he stuck with it and accomplished it.

Okay so I'm feeling like a bit of a heathen. The "other" sister-in-law inspired you to read the Bible while I introduced you to Texas Hold'em.

It is new, Deb - - - and THANKS for noticing!!! Being the techno-illiterate that I am, it took quite some doing for me to GET it there!!!

I would like to also read the Bible cover to cover. I have tried to in the past, but by February, I think I start slacking off... Maybe this year?!?

I usually study my favorites... Moses, New Testaments, etc. I am finding though that more and more, I enjoy reading the Old Testament. Oh how I wish I could re-take that class from college. I would do so much better in it today than I did way back when... :-)

    Lifelong Friend,
You may want to republish the comment w/out the reference to my name. Whooops Poopsy! :) I was in such shock that I didn't even read past my name.

Thanks to my lookout: Cool Sis.
She acts like she doesn't love me, but notice how protective she is of me. ;)

I hope you can accomplish your goal! Just don't quit if you fall a little behind at times! I have about 2-3 months worth of readings left from attempting to read through the whole Bible in 2006. But that's better than the first time I did it! That year, my one year Bible plan took me three years to get through! LOL

But I think she might have been referring to the sister-in-law who led the way on the "Bible in a year" thing.

    hahaha

I think it's the Anon thing that doesn't work for me. Could I call you Kibbles? :)

BTW- Had a good time with your non-spiritual sister-in-law at the IWU basketball game. Heard about the whole poker nemesis thing. Can't wait to play although I'll need a lesson or two. I've only played once. I do watch celebrity poker on TV alot so I have the basic concept. I'd be really good if I just knew what everyone had at the table. I'd know exactly how to bet! Ha!

I don't know that I have read through the Bible in a year, but I kind of do it continually. Every morning I read a ch out of the Old and a ch out of the New. When I am finished I restart. It is amazing how much stuff you miss or forget each time you read it.

How poker and reading the Bible through got in the same post is beyond me.:)

I'm such the black sheep of the family. Don't tell Grandma!

Between poker and R&R, I may be shunned from the family.

    I'm a wayward child. :)

    What's next?

    beer and cigars

Last weekend I saw two movies with Bon Jovi in them and they were so cool!! They were on the oldies channel. I started to call Kelley and have her call you but didn't know if you had the same movies that we have.

hahahahaha......My husband isn't a Buckeye fan, but he wasn't snapping his arms either. :)

This grammy was getting such a kick out of your posts and wishing she was in Indiana to teach you some poker tricks...especially "the poker face" which you would obviously be GOOD at!!!

Greg and I will be happy to teach your husband the "gator chomp" when I get to meet you in the springtime. For the time being tho, I will just keep "celebrating in the closet" since I do detect a few Buckeye fans on here....ha!!!

  • At 9:47 PM, Blogger Anon said…

Don't worry Grammy, my husband was rooting for the Gators before the game even started. It's just not his personality to do the Gator chomp, but maybe having some fellow comrades demonstrating their amazing skill to him would turn him into a new man. :)

Kudos to your Gators. It's too bad the Buckeyes couldn't give them a run for their money Monday night.

Sound like you are on your way to a fantastic new year with your goal of the Bible cover to cover! I wish you the best with that and hang in there through the OT! I know it's God's Word and all, but there's a lot of 'begets' in there that I just don't get... I'm going straight to you know where for that one.

No, I am going to work on one, hopefully tonight. Busy and had some company show up at my house (3 and a 6 year old) with the Buck situation.

So, I'm remembering what it's like to have a preschooler in the house and realizing that I'm not use to the energy that takes. Hopefully, I'll still be in one piece by the time their aunt shows up at 3:30. hahahaha

Okay, it's not THAT bad. I'm not that out of shape with the little ones yet. :)

    Patience, people......

Blogger was giving me a headache last night. I thought this new blogger was suppose to be faster. Had some trouble loading some of my pics, but it's do or die tonight baby. The post is partially finished. Sorry I keep delaying, but I promise I will get the job done atleast before Feb. 1. :)

What friends convinced me that this blog thing would be "no problem"? :) :) :)

  • At 8:50 PM, Blogger Keetha Broyles said…

I hear ya, Anon!! I'm not finding the new version one bit faster - - - - and I have found several things I don't like as well.

Funny you should mention the new version because I'm going crazy with it right now trying to post and edit. Grrrhhh.

And I should have said "freeze and die" instead of "do or die" tonight. Our heat is out, my tootsies are cold and I look like Rudolph. But here I am, trying to put a post together for all you wonderful people out there.

Wish me luck. Hopefully, my fingers, which are pretty much icicles at this point, won't experience too much hypothermia. :)
